CLEANUP PROJECT SUMMARY

The Mist Lake Minnetonka

To clean up this 9-acre property on Lake Minnetonka, Landmark prepared and received rapid approval from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency of the Voluntary Response Action Plan and Environmental Contingency Plan. Rapid approval was required to demolish buildings and remediate soil prior to constructing two multi-story retail (1st floor) and residential (2nd, 3rd and 4th floors) buildings with underground parking at this waterfront Property.

In addition to the excavation and disposal of contaminated soil on this fast-paced redevelopment project, the remedial design included a system to prevent migration of vapors from volatile organic compounds in groundwater into the two buildings: installing a vapor barrier and passive venting system beneath the buildings.

During remediation and construction, Landmark dealt with several environmental contingencies including the removal of eight underground storage tanks. Landmark staff prepared a successful grant application to Hennepin County’s Environmental Response Fund, which paid for $48,000 of the environmental cleanup costs related to the vapor barrier and passive venting system.
